What position (or level of fame, talent) do you need to be in to be offered your own imprint by a big publisher? Well, being able to walk on water or leap skyscrapers would help.

OR, you could be the outrageously funny and popular late night E! Television show host, Chelsea Handler, who has already published three bestselling books by three different publishers!

Chelsea's imprint will be part of Grand Central Publishing (part of Hachette Book Group and formerly Warner Books) and called “Borderline Amazing/A Chelsea Handler Book."

Brian Chappatta, writing for Crain's New York Business, has more details:

Brash E! Television star Chelsea Handler appears more serious than ever about pursuing a future in publishing. The late-night network comedian and author of three bestselling books has signed on to have her own imprint at Grand Central Publishing.

Ms. Handler agreed to a three-book deal for the new imprint, called “Borderline Amazing/A Chelsea Handler Book,” beginning with the title Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me, to be released in May 2011. The other two books, which will be released within 18 months, are untitled, though the second book will be “written” by her dog, Chunk.

Borderline Amazing Productions is the production company of Ms. Handler and Tom Brunelle. Beth de Guzman, vice president and editor-in-chief of paperbacks at Grand Central Publishing, said that as a celebrity, Ms. Handler's enthusiasm for her work in the past was unique and the reason why the company “jumped at the opportunity” to giver her a personalized imprint.

“She is an unbelievable promoter of her books,” Ms. de Guzman said. “That's the kind of commitment you want as a publisher. It was beyond our wildest expectations. [An imprint] was too good to pass up.”
